Additional Sample Essay (Score = 1)
Scoring Explanation
This essay shows little understanding of the writing task. The writer takes a position but fails to explain reasons to support that position.
The essay is minimally developed, with just two very general assertions related to the position, the second of which is repetitive of the first (. . . the students would not come to school often, the drop out rates would increase and start to lose interest in school and . . . the non-college attending, they wouldn't really be interested in staying an extra year in High school).
There is no evidence of an organizational structure. Transitions are not used. The introduction consists only of a position statement; no conclusion is present.
Sentence structure and word choice are simple, with frequently distracting errors.
