Doug Becker is the ACT vice president of Development in the Education Division. He oversees the development of assessments for resident and contract programs, as well as the design and development of innovative assessment alternatives that take advantage of technology; participates in the development and implementation of an integrated applied research agenda that supports the design and development of ACT's assessment programs; and oversees the design and development of creative assessment approaches that respond to current needs of ACT users. Becker participates in, and contributes to, the corporation's strategic planning processes, participates in the annual planning and budgeting process of the corporation, and represents ACT to organizations, agencies, and individuals that can assist ACT in furthering its mission.
Before joining ACT, Becker was vice president and director of research and measurement services for Riverside Publishing; director of psychometric activities for the General Educational Development (GED) Testing Service of the American Council on Education; senior evaluation officer and psychometrician for the National Board of Medical Examiners; and special research assistant for the Iowa Testing Programs, University of Iowa. He also taught mathematics and music for four years. Becker has served on the board of the National Council on Measurement in Education and currently serves on the editorial board of Applied Measurement in Education.
Becker earned a BM in music education, mathematics, and music composition from Illinois Benedictine College. He received a master's degree in music composition from Northwestern University. Becker also completed a PhD in educational measurement and statistics from the University of Iowa.
Becker and his wife live in Iowa City.
