Harvey Mudd College Expands Applicant Pool with Acceptance of ACT ScoresHarvey Mudd College in Claremont, California, will begin accepting ACT test scores as part of its admission application process starting in the 200708 academic year. This decision ends its holdout as the lone four-year college or university in the United States that did not accept them. We have always attracted stellar students and our applicant pool has grown consistently, said Interim Vice President for Admission and Financial Aid Peter Osgood. We felt it was time to expand our reach into areas of the United States where the ACT is the preferred test and where we traditionally receive fewer applications. Our goal is a more diverse student bodyracially, ethnically, regionally, and in gender. The ACT provides us opportunities to better achieve it, while maintaining our holistic approach of looking at candidates from perspectives beyond just their numbers. The college will require the writing portion of the test. This decision by Harvey Mudd opens the door of opportunity to a growing number of students across the nation who take the ACT, said ACT Vice President of Educational Services Jon Erickson. The additional students who apply to Harvey Mudd will further enhance the college’s outstanding reputation for academic excellence. Previous Article « Autumn 2007 Index | Top of Page » Next Article
