MASSMUTUAL SCHOLARS PROGRAM OPENS DOORS

Paloma Pena received a scholarship from the MassMutual Scholars Program in 2011 and again in 2012. A senior at Kennesaw State University in Georgia, Pena is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in communication with a management minor. Her future plans include attending graduate school and obtaining a job in business or financial services. “The MassMutual scholarship has opened many doors for me throughout my college career. It allowed me to achieve my goal of studying abroad this past summer in Spain and exposed me to careers in financial services. It will continue to help fund my education until I graduate in May 2013.”

MARINE CORPS SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION DEEPENS APPRECIATION

Kristen Trout received the Marine Corps Scholarship in 2011. A sophomore at Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania, Trout is majoring in history with a double minor in Civil War-era studies and political science. She plans to earn a doctorate in history and a master’s degree in public history or museum studies. “Because of this scholarship, I have a much deeper appreciation for the United States and for our troops who are serving overseas. I plan to become a Civil War public historian, so I can share my passion for honoring our troops and fallen heroes through public interpretation.”

HORATIO ALGER ASSOCIATION OF DISTINGUISHED AMERICANS IMPACTS LIVES

Daniel Lind received the Horatio Alger national scholarship in 2005. He is completing a master’s degree in automotive engineering from Clemson University’s International Center for Automotive Research and is one of eight students accepted into the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Graduate Fellowship Program, which begins upon completion of his degree. “The Horatio Alger national scholarship has had a tremendously positive impact on my life. The leadership event in Washington, DC, convinced me that I was capable of pursuing my highest aspirations. The people at the Horatio Alger Association have provided support and encouragement at every step along the way.”
