ACT Adds International Optional Writing Test Date

Students taking the ACT overseas will soon have another opportunity to take ACT’s optional Writing Test.

ACT offers the Writing Test internationally on three of the five available ACT test dates—October, December, and April—and will make the June test date available internationally starting in 2011. The Writing Test is offered on all six ACT test dates in the United States and on all test dates except September in Canada, Puerto Rico, and U.S. Territories.

“There has been increasing demand to offer as many opportunities as possible for students taking the ACT at overseas test sites,” said ACT CEO and Chairman of the Board Richard L. Ferguson. “We are pleased to provide additional access to students around the globe.”

Offered in more than 135 countries, the ACT has four sections—English, mathematics, reading, and science—and takes about three hours to complete. Students can also elect to take the optional Writing Test if requested or required by a college or university. The Writing exam extends the testing period by 30 minutes.
