Charles B. Reed, chancellor of the California State University, is the chief executive officer of
the countrys largest system of public higher education. He provides leadership to 43,700 faculty and staff and over 400,000 students on 23 campuses and six off-campus centers. The CSU systems annual budget is more than $5.1 billion.
Reed served as chancellor of the State University System of Florida from 1985-98. Prior to that, he held the positions of chief of staff, deputy chief of staff, director of legislative affairs, and education policy coordinator in the executive office of the governor of Florida. He served as director, Office of Educational Planning, Budgeting, and Evaluation, and as an associate for planning and coordination in the Florida Department of Education. He was director of the National Project at the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, and was a tenured associate professor of education at George Washington University.
Reed received an Ed.D. in teacher education, an M.S. in secondary education, and a B.S. in health and physical education, all from George Washington University.
