NACADA Names Scholarship in Honor of Wes Habley

Photo of Wes Habley The National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) has honored long-time ACT staff member Wes Habley for his dedication to the profession by naming a scholarship in his honor.

Habley is a founding member of NACADA, which was established in 1979 to promote quality academic advising in higher education. He is one of 13 charter members who have been with NACADA from the start.

With ACT's support, Habley founded the NACADA Summer Institute on Academic Advising and has served as its director for 20 years, earning him NACADA's award for service to the association, outstanding contributions to the field of advising and, most recently, a scholarship in his name, the Wes Habley NACADA Summer Institute Scholarship.

During his twenty-plus years at ACT, Habley has been well known for his work in the field of advising and student retention and his willingness to take on challenges. He began his career as an associate director of the National Center for the Advancement of Educational Practices and later served as the center's director. He currently coordinates ACT state organizations.

"The scholarship naming marks the importance of Wes Habley's dedication and commitment to a field that continues to grow in importance to student engagement and success in college," said Susan M. Campbell, NACADA president.
