Program Description

The Alcoa Foundation Sons and Daughters Scholarship Program awards college scholarships to the children of Alcoa Inc. employees. The program is a national competition administered by Recognition Program Services, a division of ACT. Applicants who plan to complete their education at a 2-year community college, technical, or trade school should apply for the 2-year award. Applicants who plan to attend a 4-year institution should apply for the 4-year award. Students should also apply for the 4-year award if they plan to attend a 2-year school and then transfer to a 4-year institution. Scholarships are for $1,500 annually and are renewable for either one or three years, provided the student meets specific academic requirements.

Eligible Alcoa Parent

The eligible Alcoa parent must be a full-time, active, permanent, U.S.-based employee of Alcoa Inc. or one of its wholly-owned subsidiaries.

Eligible Children

Eligible children include biological children, stepchildren living in the Alcoa parent's home, adopted children, and grandchildren who are under a legal guardianship arrangement with the eligible Alcoa Employee (grandparent).

How It Works

Eligible children must apply between October and January of their senior year of high school. Students already in college are not eligible to apply for an award. Applicants are required to submit an application (which includes a short essay) and a letter of recommendation. Students applying for the 4-year award must also submit an ACT or SAT score.
