Doug Hughes is a business leader with more than 20 years of experience in education and educational technology, including adaptive learning, digitalization, and Software as a Service (SaaS). Doug joined ACT in 2020 and is now president of navigation.
He is responsible for leading efforts to seamlessly integrate acquired companies into the ACT family, while preserving the unique cultures and capabilities that each one brings to the organization.
Previously, Doug served as CEO of Surgarai, Inc., a medical technology startup, and as chief product officer at Knewton, an adaptive learning company recently acquired by Wiley. Prior to that, Doug spent 17 years at McGraw-Hill Education, Higher Education Group, where he served in various senior leadership roles including chief sales officer, director of digital partnerships, and executive brand manager.
Doug is a first-generation college student who began his career in the US Army as a crew member on an M1A1 Abrams main battle tank. He holds a BBA in business information systems from the University of West Georgia and an MBA from the University of Phoenix.
