Topics of Study

In this program, you will learn to express ideas, feelings, and inner visions through the performance of a dance discipline, such as ballet, jazz, modern, ethnic, and folk dance. You will also focus on the study and analysis of dance as a cultural phenomenon, which includes instruction in technique, choreography, Labanotation, dance history and criticism, and dance production. Throughout your academic experience you will have the chance to perform, both individually and with a group. Some colleges require a concert in dance as a requirement for graduation.

Degrees

• A certificate from a specific school of dance may qualify for work in professional dance companies, musical theater productions, or other businesses.
• A bachelor's degree is needed to teach in a public school.
• A graduate degree is usually required to teach in college, do research on dance and dance history, or do dance therapy.
