METEOROLOGICAL TECHNICIANS support meteorologists in the research and study of atmospheric conditions. Technicians observe and record general weather conditions and visibility for use in forecasting. They read test or measuring instruments and gauges to make observations and measurements of climatic and atmospheric conditions. Meteorological technicians prepare maps, charts, graphs, and technical reports describing surface weather, upper air, and sea conditions. Technicians prepare warnings or briefings about current or predicted weather conditions.

Entry Requirements
Programs for METEOROLOGICAL TECHNICIANS are available at 2- and 4-year colleges and universities. Training is also offered in the military and apprenticeship programs. Courses in meteorology, meteorological instruments and observations, climatology, atmospheric dynamics, algebra, and trigonometry are recommended. No special licensing or certification is required for meteorological technicians.
