State of Nevada employees eligible for online training

May 17, 2004

IOWA CITY, Iowa—State of Nevada employees looking to boost their job skills can now participate in online training through a two-year program. The state has entered into a formal agreement to serve training needs of its agencies through the state's two ACT Center locations: the Community College of Southern Nevada, serving southern Nevada, and Truckee Meadows Community College, serving northern Nevada.

ACT Center sites offer more than 2,500 computer- and web-based courses that can be accessed at home, at work, or at the community college locations. Course topics include safety, computer basics, English as a second language, key work skills, and supervisory and management skill development.

State employees can contact their training coordinators to discuss course possibilities.

"State of Nevada employees are extremely busy, and finding easily accessible, high-quality training for them is a challenge," said Jeanne Greene, director for the State of Nevada's Department of Personnel. "ACT Center computer-based training has the flexibility our employees require."

"Nevada's ACT Center sites are working in concert to provide statewide access and regional service in a way that's flexible for employees and highly cost-effective for the State of Nevada," said Debra Solt, ACT Center director at the Community College of Southern Nevada. "Online learning is ideal for employees who don't have time for traditional classroom training."

"This is a unique program in which two Nevada community colleges are teaming up to provide training statewide," said Michael Rainey, dean of the Outreach College at Truckee Meadows Community College. "Nevada's ACT Centers offer a wide range of courses designed to help employees improve their productivity and quality of work."
