November 17, 2005	States Receive NGA Grants to Work with ACT and Improve Quality of High School Courses The National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center) has awarded grants to three states to work with the NGA Center and ACT on a pilot project designed to improve the quality of high school courses. The grants, $140,000 for each state, were announced this week by the NGA.
November 16, 2005	ACT Awarded Contract to Develop National Writing Assessment Today, ACT announced it has been awarded a $1.4 million contract by the National Assessment Governing Board (NAGB) for a major project to develop a new framework and specifications for the National Assessment of Educational Progress' (NAEP) national writing assessment.
September 22, 2005	ACT Provides Fee Waivers to Student Victims of Hurricane Katrina High school juniors and seniors who live in the flood zone or have been displaced to new locations because of the hurricane can register to take the ACT exam at no cost in December or February.
September 19, 2005	ACT Centers to Administer Exams for Thomas Edison State College ACT will deliver web-based exams to distance learning students at Thomas Edison State College through the nationwide network of ACT Centers.

May 26, 2005	Middle/High School Students Need More Help From Schools To Plan For Future Many of America's middle and high school students need more help from schools to effectively plan for the future, according to a recent study by ACT. The study suggests that many students don't start thinking about their post-high school plans early enough, and that those who do may not be taking the right classes to prepare to meet their goals.
April 27, 2005	ACT and Ordinate Develop Spoken English Exam for International Business ACT and Ordinate Corporation have developed a customized version of Ordinate's automated Spoken English Test (SET-10). International businesses are using this exam to hire qualified applicants for jobs requiring English language skills.
April 20, 2005	Optional ACT Writing Test Is Working for Students and Colleges Roughly half of the high school juniors who took the ACT Assessment on the April 9 national test date chose to take the optional Writing Test. Most colleges will not require a writing score, but some will require it of students applying for admission starting in the fall of 2006.
