IOWA CITY, IowaACT announced today that Capella University, an accredited online education institution, has chosen the ACT Center network to deliver proctored, computer-based exams for undergraduate students. ACT Centers will offer the exams in summer 2005.
The agreement gives Capella University the opportunity to deliver proctored exams all over the country. ACT Centers, which offer computer-based testing and training services primarily at two- and four-year colleges, have more than 220 locations nationwide. The Capella exams will be accessible via the Internet and will be proctored by ACT Center staff.
"Capella University is pleased to work with ACT in providing an important new service to our students," said Michael Offerman, president and chief executive officer of Capella University. "The ACT Center network provides us a way to combine learner authentication and convenience."
"Since the network's launch in 2000, ACT Centers have been expanding testing and training options for adult learners," said Michael Eisenstein, president and chief operating officer of ACT's Workforce Development Division.
"This partnership with Capella University shows how the ACT Center network can extend the ways distance educators can reach students."
The Capella University agreement follows a successful testing relationship in 2004 with Boston University, in which ACT Centers delivered final exams to students completing master's degrees in criminal justice. That partnership will continue with more testing this year.
