September 19, 2005

IOWA CITY, Iowa—ACT has announced it will deliver secure, end-of-semester web-based exams to distance learning students at Thomas Edison State College through the nationwide network of ACT Centers.

Thomas Edison State College, based in Trenton, N.J., provides degree completion opportunities for self-directed adults. The college has more than 11,000 students in all 50 states and was recognized by Forbes magazine as one of the nation's top 20 colleges and universities in using technology to create learning opportunities for adults.

ACT Centers will administer end-of-semester exams to Thomas Edison State College students 12 times per year. Web-based testing allows the college to offer proctored exams across the country at 225 ACT Center locations, flexible test scheduling and instant scoring. The first exams will be administered at the end of the 2005 fall semester.

"Web-based testing is the perfect solution for colleges with nationwide student populations," said Scott Wyatt, vice president of workforce business development and marketing for ACT. "It gives students flexible testing options across the country, while giving colleges the peace of mind that students are under the watch of licensed testing proctors."

The Thomas Edison State College program follows ongoing relationships between ACT and distance learning institutions Capella University and Boston University.
