Nebraska High School Seniors Recognized for Top ACT Score

OMAHA, NEB.—Five Nebraska high school seniors were recognized by Governor Dave Heineman today for earning a top composite score of 36 on the ACT college admissions exam. These class of 2008 students, honored during a press conference at Millard North High School in Omaha, earned their top scores in October and December 2007.

The students are: Ross T. DeVol of Bellevue, Bellevue East High School; Sarah K. Ferguson of Omaha, Central High School; Kirsten A. Miller of Omaha, Millard North High School; James J. Morin of Lincoln, Pius X High School; and Madison M. Rezaei of Omaha, Elkhorn High School.

The ACT consists of tests in English, mathematics, reading and science. Each test is scored on a scale of 1–36, and a student's composite score is the average of the four test scores.

DeVol was the only Nebraska student to earn a top score of 36 on the ACT test during the December 13, 2007, national test date. Nationally, only 39 test-takers earned a 36 score with nearly 370,000 tests administered on that day.

Ferguson, Miller, Morin and Rezaei were among more than 475,000 national test-takers on October 27, 2007. Only 63 students in the United States earned a top score of 36 on that date.

All five students are set to graduate at the end of this school year.

Students who earn a top ACT score should have a choice of the widest possible range of future educational options. ACT scores are accepted at all colleges and universities across the nation.
