June 3, 2008

IOWA CITY, Iowa—ACT’s fourth President, Oluf Davidsen, died Saturday, May 31, 2008, at his home in Iowa City. Davidsen joined ACT in 1962 and served as ACT President from 1974 until 1988 when he retired and was named President Emeritus. ACT staff members who worked with Davidsen remember him as a highly capable leader of the organization during its formative years.

“While we are saddened by his passing, we celebrate his many accomplishments and offer our condolences to his family during their time of grieving,” said Richard L. Ferguson, who succeeded Davidsen and is current CEO and Chairman of the Board of ACT. “Oluf was a great mentor and friend to me and will be sorely missed.”

Davidsen was committed to education, high quality, fairness, and organizational excellence. The corporate headquarters building which bears his name serves as a continuing reminder of his exceptional leadership of ACT.

Davidsen is survived by his wife, Penny, their adult children—Leslie, Chris, Steven, and Erik—and 11 grandchildren.
