Preparing for College

Many of your students are looking ahead to college. With your guidance, they can position themselves for a successful college experience.

ACT offers useful resources to support your efforts.

Electronic Materials
Using DISCOVER®, our comprehensive system combining developmental guidance and career information, you can assist your students in assessing their own interests and abilities as they make decisions about a college major and an eventual career.

The program offers complete, up-to-date databases of occupations, college majors, and financial aid/scholarships. You'll also find detailed information about almost every college and university in the United States, including many technical schools.

Web-based Resources
You, your students, and their parents can search online to find information about colleges by location, majors offered, tuition range, enrollment, and on-campus activities. Your students can link to colleges' websites and apply for admission electronically at participating institutions.

With ACT's free online Financial Aid Need Estimator, your students obtain a fast, accurate calculation of their expected family contribution and costs at specific colleges.

Related Information
An important step in getting ready for college is taking the ACT. ACT scores are accepted by nearly every college and university in the United States and are preferred by many.
