2014 National Award Recipients
A national selection committee composed of respected leaders in education and workforce development evaluated state nominations and selected one national award recipient for each of the four categories.
Alisa Braun (Student Readiness Award) is a senior at Bozeman High School in Montana. She has maintained a rigorous college preparatory curriculum and numerous extracurricular activities, including the Bozeman Nordic Ski team. Alisa earned an ACT® college readiness assessment score of 32 and is a member of the National Honor Society.
St. Louis Park High School (College and Career Transition Award) created the nationally renowned Building Assets Reducing Risks (BARR) ninth grade program, which has increased the number of students who successfully pass all courses from 56% to 88.5%.
Shelton State Community College (Career Preparedness Award) recognizes the regional demand for a skilled labor market. Partnering with local employers, Shelton State created the Ready to Work initiative, which provides pre-employment training for displaced and underemployed individuals. The program boasts an 85% job placement rate.
Bodine Electric Company (Workplace Success Award) is a leading manufacturer of high-performance motors and has a strong commitment to its northeastern Iowa community. Bodine Electric has played an integral role in assisting the northeast Iowa region through partnerships such as Opportunity Dubuque.
