2014 Wisconsin Award Recipients
Student Readiness Award Recipient: Brigetta Rodriguez
Growing up on a farm, Brigetta Rodriguez, Wisconsin Student Readiness Award recipient, learned the value of hard work early on. Unfortunately, this also meant limited time to participate in extracurricular activities. Yet Brigetta still managed to get involved in both athletics and community service activities while in high school.
Brigetta has a unique willingness to take on challenges rather than back down from them. “Education is extremely important to me. It has the potential to help individuals reach goals that they never would have believed possible. It has an incredible transformative power,” said Brigetta. According to Brigetta’s school counselor, she consistently exceeds expectations and has a true love of learning.
With a four-year plan in place, Brigetta has set herself up for college and career success. Brigetta possesses the intellectual and academic skills necessary to succeed in college, as well as the determination and leadership skills to maintain lifelong achievement.
When asked what advice she would give to other high school students, she replied, “Embrace your talents. It’s not realistic to expect to be proficient in every subject and task, but everyone is capable of doing something well.”
Brigetta plans to attend Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York to study for a degree in psychology. She hopes to one day earn a doctorate and practice as a child and family psychologist.
