Make the Most of It

Work, work, work… That is all I have been doing now that school has started.  I thought my senior year of high school was going to be fun but, it sure doesn’t look like it’s going to be that way for me.  This year my school has decided to make a drastic change to our schedules.  We changed from having four 90-minute class periods each semester, to EIGHT!  Continue reading

Living a Double Life

Let it be known that I, Allison Williams, am living a double life. I am a hardworking high school student by day and a heavenly hostess by night. Whether I am toting textbooks or to-go orders, I am always working to improve myself. Balancing my schoolwork and my part-time job is by no means an easy task but it is neither impossible nor unrewarding. Continue reading

My Last Year!

Hey everybody! I recently picked up my schedule for next year (the dreaded senior year), and I immediately realized that I have a pretty difficult year ahead of me. I’m going to be taking AP Calculus, AP Physics, AP U.S. Government and Civics, AP Literature and Composition, an honors Spanish class, and then Wind Ensemble and Journal. To say that I’ll be busy would be a huge understatement. I’m looking forward to all of my classes, but balancing all of the homework and extracurricular activities like tennis and the Gay-Straight Alliance will be really tough. Continue reading

Summer — So Far, So Good

Hi everyone! I hope your summer has been as peaceful and relaxing as mine has been so far. My summer highlight would have to be going to Samford University for “Super Summer Alabama,” a Bible camp where I met and made lots of new friends. I am already excited about going back next year! Other than this trip, I have been hanging out with my friends by the pool or going to work. Continue reading

My Summer: Perfect, no. Productive, yes.

When the final bell rang on May 23, 2013, a bolt of lightning ran through my veins as I exited the building to face the summer skies. I had high hopes for my summer; I had a job, a car, and all the energy in the world. There was no doubt my summer vacation would resemble those in my favorite films, but to my surprise, there were no sunny beaches or late night drives around the city. Although my summer vacation was not as perfect as I projected it to be, it was still productive and fulfilling. Continue reading

Summer is Almost Over…

Hello! Unfortunately, summer is almost over and class begins real soon. I go back next week. It is hard for me to believe I’m going to be a senior and even harder for my parents. My mom and dad constantly tell me how they still think I’m an 8-year-old. I’m sure the same goes for you! Anyhow, this blog is going to be about my summer experience! Enjoy. Continue reading

Summer Vacation

Hi guys! I hope you’ve all been having a good summer vacation so far. Despite the weather (it’s been insanely hot in Walla Walla these past few weeks), I’ve been having a blast. Just this last weekend I went inner tubing with a group of friends out on the Columbia River. Even though I got flipped off of the tube a couple of times and came home with pretty bad sunburns on my back and neck, I had a great time. With the weather ranging from the high 90s to mid 100s, the water was really refreshing, and being out on the boat in the wind felt great. I also ate a ton of food, which is always great. I’ve also been keeping myself pretty busy playing a lot of tennis. Between practicing in multiple camps and hitting with friends, I’ve been sometimes playing up to four or five hours a day. Thankfully I have access to indoor courts, or I probably would have died from heatstroke a couple of times by now! I really like playing tennis, and I’d love to make the varsity team next year, so being able to get all of this extra play time and practice in is fantastic. In addition, I leave for a summer camp in about a week, and I can’t wait to go to that. It looks like it’ll be the perfect blend of relaxation and fun. Continue reading

So Long, Junior Year!

Finally, junior year has come to an end. As I reflect on this school year, I think about the various lessons I learned from my teachers, my advisors, and each of my noteworthy classes. This year was treacherous, but valuable; I discovered something new about myself regularly. As I return my textbooks, clean my locker, and say “Sayonara!” to my crazy classmates, I remind myself how I have grown academically and socially. Continue reading

ACT Test Day!

The week leading up to the exam was just terrible, so on the day of the ACT, I did not feel as prepared as I had hoped to be. After it was over, I decided I would retake it (possibly after the summer). In each section, I was unable to finish the last column of the bubbles. When the teacher exclaimed, “You have 5 minutes remaining,” I randomly bubbled in the answers. I hated that I had to do that. I spent too much time on certain questions. Please don’t be like me! Pace yourself and check the clock often. There may have been numerous questions I would have felt assured in, but never had the chance to answer with real thought. Continue reading

My ACT Testing Experience

“The ACT” … just saying this phrase sounds intimidating and can strike fear into the hearts of the most confident of students. In reality, it can be intimidating IF you overanalyze it. Obviously, everyone wants to get the best score they can when taking this test because it is one of the key factors in determining if they can get into the college they want. Doing well on the ACT can also help you earn scholarships, so it has to be taken seriously. I personally have taken the ACT twice, and I definitely took it much more seriously the second time. I worked to prepare the first time, but I went into the first test with no personal experience of what to expect. While I did OK, I knew I could do better. Continue reading
