Summer Vacation

Hi guys! I hope you’ve all been having a good summer vacation so far. Despite the weather (it’s been insanely hot in Walla Walla these past few weeks), I’ve been having a blast. Just this last weekend I went inner tubing with a group of friends out on the Columbia River. Even though I got flipped off of the tube a couple of times and came home with pretty bad sunburns on my back and neck, I had a great time. With the weather ranging from the high 90s to mid 100s, the water was really refreshing, and being out on the boat in the wind felt great. I also ate a ton of food, which is always great. I’ve also been keeping myself pretty busy playing a lot of tennis. Between practicing in multiple camps and hitting with friends, I’ve been sometimes playing up to four or five hours a day. Thankfully I have access to indoor courts, or I probably would have died from heatstroke a couple of times by now! I really like playing tennis, and I’d love to make the varsity team next year, so being able to get all of this extra play time and practice in is fantastic. In addition, I leave for a summer camp in about a week, and I can’t wait to go to that. It looks like it’ll be the perfect blend of relaxation and fun.

On the academic side of things, I’ve also been pretty busy. I read How to Read Literature Like a Professor by Thomas Foster and I’m in the middle of reading Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain for my AP literature summer reading. After Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, I have to read A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan. I’ve enjoyed the books so far, and can’t wait to see what the others hold. I’m in the middle of reading Inferno by Dan Brown for my own enjoyment, and I also read Tigers in Normandy by Wolfgang Schneider.

I’m also beginning the process of looking at and applying for a few colleges. I took a campus tour of Whitman College a few weeks ago and really liked what I saw, so I’ll definitely be applying there when the time comes around. In addition, I’m going to begin filling out the Common App soon to start the process of applying to a few colleges.

I hope you’re all enjoying your summer, and I can’t wait to write again!
