University Bound
I walked into the room and immediately I was ready, and excited! There were people creating ads, playing with templates, and editing stories. I felt an urge to join them. There I was, visiting the news room at the University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA), at the invitation of Communication Department Director, Dr. Selber!

Here I am, standing at the main entrance of Texas A&M University campus in Kingsville, Texas, which we visited a couple of weeks ago. Still, my college life at UTPA, only a couple of months away, seems unbelievable to me.

Dr. Selber and I enjoyed a nice walk around UTPA campus, as we spoke of my future plans.
The person closest to the door walked over and introduced herself as the Secretary for Student Publications—the Pan American newspaper—and after introducing myself, she led me to Dr. Selber’s office. I had never felt so nervous, or so confident at the same time. However, he gave me an assignment (a story for the next issue) and welcomed me to the staff. Lisa Cantu, an intern at a university level newspaper! College, here I come.

La Joya Jewelettes, feel iconic when it comes to dancing with passion.
There is no better feeling in the world, to a dancer, than being center stage and giving in to the music and her talent. Walking into the dance room every morning also serves as an essential part of my last year’s experience. It’s necessary to have a place to relieve oneself of any and all stress. Every morning, that room is mine. As my dance team prepares for the next and final competition, we portray every ounce of passion. The level of anxiousness that has been created is taste-worthy. Right now, winning is not as important as using the opportunity to create our everlasting memories on the dance floor.
