What Reading for Information–Extended Measures

The broader scope of Reading for Information–Extended positions the test to measure outcomes for:

  • Beginning ABE Literacy
  • Beginning Basic Education
  • Low Intermediate Basic Education

This will enable the WorkKeys system to serve as a measure of progress by individuals who possess virtually any level of skill in reading.

The original WorkKeys Reading for Information assessment produces scores ranging from Level 3 to Level 7. The Reading for Information–Extended assessment reports scores in the same range and also produces Level 1 and Level 2 scores, which are associated with these skills:

Reading for Information–Extended, Level 1: People who score in this range can:

  • recognize letters
  • recognize the meanings of common words
  • match a word phrase to the same word phrase

Reading for Information–Extended, Level 2: People who score in this range can:

  • read text with familiar vocabulary
  • identify an obvious detail when few obvious details are presented
  • read direct instructions
  • recognize a response that is given using similar words
  • read negative questions and choose the correct step to take
  • read simple instructions and recognize them when they are restated with common synonyms in order to choose the correct step
  • read simple instructions, identify the steps, and choose the correct order for taking the steps
