Work Tasks
- Fix home appliances such as toasters, ovens, washers and dryers, refrigerators, vacuum cleaners, etc.
- Fix small appliances in shops and large appliances in customers' homes
- Take apart and put together appliances
- Answer questions about appliances
- Work for stores, utility companies, and repair shops
- Work with screwdrivers, pliers, and other tools for fixing things, testing tools, service manuals, bills, and supply reports

Education/Training
- Minimum for Entry: On-the-job training
- Employers Prefer: A 2-year degree in electromechanical technology and training or work experience repairing a specific type of appliance
- Skills/Courses: Courses in basic electricity and electronics, shop, mechanical drawing, and applied math
- Certification/Licensing: Certifications are available.
