Work Tasks
- Coach a team or a player in sports
- Work with people to help them do their best in their sport
- Plan and teach practice sessions
- Point out strong points and weaknesses, and select players for teams
- Work indoors and outside, for schools, sports teams, and sports clubs
- Work with exercise equipment, rules, schedules, game plans, records, and first-aid supplies

Education/Training
- Minimum for Entry: On-the-job training
- Employers Prefer: A 4-year degree and extensive knowledge of the game
- Skills/Courses: College courses include exercise and sports science, physiology, kinesiology, nutrition and fitness, physical education, and sports medicine.
- Certification/Licensing: School coaches must have a teacher's license.
