Work Tasks

• Coach a team or a player in sports
• Work with people to help them do their best in their sport
• Plan and teach practice sessions
• Point out strong points and weaknesses, and select players for teams
• Work indoors and outside, for schools, sports teams, and sports clubs
• Work with exercise equipment, rules, schedules, game plans, records, and first-aid supplies

• $44,500 average per year ($21.50 per hour)

Education/Training

• Minimum for Entry: On-the-job training
• Employers Prefer: A 4-year degree and extensive knowledge of the game
• Skills/Courses: College courses include exercise and sports science, physiology, kinesiology, nutrition and fitness, physical education, and sports medicine.
• Certification/Licensing: School coaches must have a teacher's license.
