Work Tasks
- Find problems in avionics (electrical or electronic) systems in aircraft (radio, flight control, navigation, computers)
- Fix or replace parts that are not working right
- Keep records and write reports on problems
- Work with engineers, technicians, and other aircraft workers
- Work indoors in aircraft hangars
- Use microphones, headsets, radar systems, autopilots, testing tools, and other electricians' tools

Education/Training
- Minimum for Entry: Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification
- Employers Prefer: FAA, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) certification, and military experience
- Skills/Courses: Courses in math, physics, chemistry, electronics, computer science, mechanical drawing, and English
- Certification/Licensing: FAA certification as an avionics repair specialist is required.
