Work Tasks
- Keep medical equipment in good working order
- Take apart equipment and fix or replace parts that are not working
- Make sure equipment is working exactly right
- Work on heart-lung machines, medical lasers, patient monitors, pacemakers, microscopes, CAT scanners, dialysis machines, etc.
- Work for hospitals, clinics, and biomedical equipment companies
- Work with hand and machine tools, testing tools, manuals, and electronic instruments

Education/Training
- Minimum for Entry: On-the-job training
- Employers Prefer: A 2-year degree in biomedical technology, an apprenticeship, or work experience repairing of a specific type of equipment
- Skills/Courses: Courses in basic electricity and electronics, shop, mechanical drawing, and applied math
- Certification/Licensing: Certifications are available.
