Work Tasks
- Make sure insurance covers what is being claimed (what the person says was lost)
- Check to make sure the claim is valid (that there really was a loss)
- Decide how much money to give the person for their loss and explain why to them
- May help to defend an insured person if a lawsuit is filed against them
- Work outside at the site of accidents, fires, burglaries, floods, or other places where there was a loss, and work in offices
- Work with computers, accident and police reports, medical bills, repair estimates, insurance polices, reports, court records, etc.

Education/Training
- Minimum for Entry: A 4-year degree
- Employers Prefer: A background related to the type of insurance (law, medicine, accounting, auto repair, or law enforcement)
- Skills/Courses: College courses include insurance, economics, or other business subjects
- Certification/Licensing: Many states require a license, which requires courses, a test, character references, and being bonded.
