Work Tasks

• Make sure food and drink machines work correctly
• Test coin change machines to make sure they work
• Fix broken machines, and clean, oil, and adjust parts
• Work indoors in repairs shops or where machines are located (in games arcades, for example)
• Work for vending, soft drink, and games companies, or own their own business
• Use various types of machines, pipe cutters, soldering irons, hand tools, grinding wheels, power tools, and testing equipment

• $35,500 average per year ($17.00 per hour)
• A medium occupation (36,200 workers in 2010)
• Expected to grow moderately (0.7% per year)

Education/Training

• Minimum for Entry: On-the-job training
• Employers Prefer: A high school diploma and training in electronics
• Skills/Courses: Courses in electricity, electronics, refrigeration, and machine repair
• Certification/Licensing: May need to be bonded. Certification is available.
