Work Tasks

• Plan activities for people to do on vacation to ensure their stay in a hotel or on a cruise ship is as nice as possible
• Make sure people are comfortable and safe
• Find out what people are interested in and plan things for them to do based on what they like
• Set up equipment and decorations, make plans for cars or buses, and make shy guests feel at ease
• Work for cruise ship lines, hotels, nursing homes, community centers, clubs, fitness centers, and summer camps
• Work with guest lists, office forms, telephones, bus and boat schedules, caterers, and sports and game equipment

• $52,500 average per year ($25.25 per hour)
• A large occupation (636,400 workers in 2010)
• Expected to grow moderately (1.4% per year)

Education/Training

• Minimum for Entry: A 4-year degree in recreation, leisure studies, or hospitality management
• Skills/Courses: A background in business administration is helpful, along with experience in a particular field, such as art, music, drama, or athletics.
