Work Tasks

• Make drawings from rough sketches and details by scientists, engineers, architects, and designers
• Make a detailed view of the object from all sides
• Show what materials to use, the steps to follow, and write directions to do the job
• Use CAD (Computer-Aided Drafting) systems or use compasses, protractors, and other drawing tools to make the drawings
• Work indoors in offices for engineering and architectural firms, the transportation industry, construction firms, utility companies, and the government
• Work with drafting boards, drawings, layouts, pencils, triangles, t-squares, protractors, technical manuals, calculators, computers, and CAD systems

Education/Training

• Minimum for Entry: A high school diploma and courses in engineering technology
