Work Tasks
- Make sure a building's rooms and other areas are clean and safe
- Hire and manage housekeeping staff, make schedules, and keep records
- Organize repairs, buy supplies, and find out about new products
- Manage outside grounds, interior design, construction work, and make sure safety and labor laws are followed
- Work for hotels, hospitals, nursing homes, college dorms, state welfare groups, prisons, the government, and private clubs
- Work with schedules, job task lists, applications, personnel records, and computers; cleaning and laundry equipment; and inventory control sheets

Education/Training
- Minimum for Entry: A degree or certificate in hotel management
- Employers Prefer: A 4-year degree in housekeeping management and hotel experience
- Skills/Courses: College courses include hotel administration, accounting, housekeeping, economics, marketing, hotel maintenance engineering, and computerized record-keeping.
- Certification/Licensing: Certification is available after specific courses have been completed.
