Work Tasks
- Run the activities of food service places and help to cook, serve, and clean when needed
- Pick menus, order supplies, and decide how much to charge for items
- Make sure the kitchen, dining area, and equipment are clean; deal with customer complaints
- Hire, train, and fire workers and keep worker and financial records
- Work for restaurants, food service companies, schools, hospitals, nursing and personal care facilities, department stores, and social organizations
- Work with menus, food, drinks, kitchen equipment, tableware, financial and personnel records, stock inventory records, and order forms
Salary, Size & Growth
- $52,500 average per year ($25.25 per hour)

Education/Training
- Minimum for Entry: A 2-year degree and work experience
- Employers Prefer: A 2- or 4-year degree in hospitality management
- Certification/Licensing: States require certificates for clean kitchens and safe equipment. Certification is available in Food Service Management.
