Work Tasks
- Look at vehicles coming into the shop, decide what needs to be repaired, and estimate how much it will cost
- Assign garage workers to make the repairs and help them when needed
- Make sure that work is done correctly and that the worksite is kept safe
- Make work schedules, keep employee records, train new workers, and order supplies
- Work in repair shops for automotive dealers, auto repair shops, gas service stations, taxi and auto leasing companies, and the government
- Work with automobiles, hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, invoices, and work schedules

- $65,000 average per year ($31.25 per hour)

Education/Training
- Minimum for Entry: A high school diploma and work experience as a mechanic
- Employers Prefer: A 2-year degree or apprenticeship in automotive or diesel repair with experience working on different types of machines
- Certification/Licensing: A driver's license is needed.
