Work Tasks
- Collect information about jobs, colleges, scholarships, the armed forces, and other programs for students to use
- Help students find job information based on what they like and what they are good at doing
- Help students take tests which tell what they like and what they are good at doing, and keep records of students
- May give talks to parents, run audio-visual equipment, and help students use computers to find career information
- Work for schools, colleges, universities, the government, and the armed forces
- Work with computers, information about careers and other programs, orders, catalogs, files, interest and aptitude tests, and audio-visual equipment

Education/Training
- Minimum for Entry: A high school diploma and training in office practices
- Employers Prefer: A 4-year degree in library science or work experience in a related field
- Skills/Courses: Employer expectations vary greatly. Some expect a Career Technician to be a helpful person who keeps documents in order. Others prefer a candidate with a master's degree in career counseling or related career-planning experience.
