Work Tasks
- Register guests at hotels and give them their room keys
- Answer questions about what the hotel offers, and provide checkout times
- Tell guests where to park and take payment for the room
- Keep records of what rooms have people staying in them
- Work indoors behind a counter for hotels and motels
- Work with computers, room reservations, room keys, mail, room schedules, and office forms

Education/Training
- Minimum for Entry: A high school diploma and on-the-job training
- Employers Prefer: A 2-year college degree and knowledge of accounting
- Skills/Courses: Training may be provided by an experienced hotel clerk or by the hotel chain. Training includes use of the computerized reservation system.
