Work Tasks
- Help resolve disputes between people, and disagreements over such as leases, real estate, banking, finance, etc.
- Meet with people to review and evaluate information about disagreements
- Analyze evidence and apply related laws in order to make decisions
- Advise about settlement offers and prepare agreements
- Work for state and local governments, labor organizations, law offices, insurance companies, and others
- Work with legal documents, court decisions, computers, books, and research materials

Education/Training
- Minimum for Entry: A 4-year degree and experience in related settings
- Employers Prefer: A master's degree or higher in mediation and experience the field
- Skills/Courses: College courses include mediation, conflict management, negotiation, collective bargaining, grievance handling, public policy, industrial relations, and law.
- Certification/Licensing: Certification requires completing courses and an apprenticeship.
