Work Tasks
- Put in and fix locks and deadbolts
- Open locks when there are no keys and make keys
- Put in alarms, security systems, and anti-theft devices for cars
- May open safes without knowing the combination and change combinations
- Work for themselves, safe and lock manufacturers, large industrial firms, schools, hospitals, hotels, and government agencies
- Work with hand and power tools, alarm and security systems, electronics, locks, lock picks, key-cutting machines, safes, and Closed Circuit Television

- $39,000 average per year ($18.75 per hour)

Education/Training
- Minimum for Entry: On-the-job training
- Employers Prefer: Additional technical training, offered by local and regional locksmith associations
