Work Tasks
- Use machines to make detailed metal parts
- Program Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machines to do the work
- Carefully plan what the machine will do, where to cut the metal, how fast to feed the metal, and what tools are needed for the job
- Use precise measuring instruments to make sure the work is correct
- Work in machine shops and manufacturing companies that make metalwork, industrial machinery, aircraft, or motor vehicles
- Work with metal (steel, cast iron, etc.) parts, lathes, drill presses, hand and power tools, coolants, blueprints, measuring devices, and safety gear

- Minimum for Entry: On-the-job training
