Work Tasks

• Supervise the production of goods in manufacturing plants
• Hire and supervise workers who make the products
• Check to make sure all products are of high quality and that customers are happy with them
• Make sure products are made within budget and on time
• Work on the shop floor and in offices in plants that make machinery and transportation equipment, instruments, electronic and electrical equipment, fabricated metal products, and food products
• Work with company products, machinery, equipment, statistics, reports, computers, specifications, and testing and analyzing equipment

• $86,000 average per year ($41.25 per hour)

Education/Training

• Minimum for Entry: Work experience as a production line supervisor
• Employers Prefer: A master's degree in industrial management or business administration (MBA)
• Skills/Courses: College courses include business administration, industrial technology, industrial engineering, and decision sciences; keeping up-to-date in new production technologies and management practices.
• Certification/Licensing: Certification is available.
