Work Tasks
- Run a recreation program's daily operation; plan arts, crafts, fitness, and sports activities
- Plan and organize activities that will help people enjoy their free time
- Keep records and look after the recreation facility
- Teach classes, coach teams, referee games, and train activity leaders
- Work inside and outside for parks, campgrounds, schools, churches, synagogues, nature centers, resorts, camps, recreation centers, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, the Red Cross, day care centers, hospitals, nursing homes, the government, the military forces, mental health facilities, and corporations
- Work with sports equipment, craft supplies, schedules, directions from supervisors, and audiovisual equipment

- $40,500 average per year ($19.50 per hour)

Education/Training
- Minimum for Entry: A 4-year degree in liberal arts
- Employers Prefer: A 4-year degree in parks and recreation or leisure studies
- Skills/Courses: College courses include specialized training or experience in a particular field, such as art, music, drama, or athletics.
- Certification/Licensing: Certification is available.
