Work Tasks

• Live in residence halls and help guide students and those living there
• Plan programs to get new students used to campus life
• Supervise what people in the hall are doing and stop bad behavior or arguments
• May manage the food and housekeeping services of the residence hall
• Work for colleges, universities, private boarding schools, and private summer camps
• Work with college/university reports, student records, orientation programs, counselors, campus facilities, and related service departments

• $57,500 average per year ($27.75 per hour)
• A medium occupation (65,600 workers in 2010)
• Expected to grow moderately (1.3% per year)

Education/Training

• Minimum for Entry: On-the-job training
• Employers Prefer: A 2-year degree and related on-the-job experience
• Skills/Courses: Skills include interacting positively with students, and the ability to manage residential facilities.
