Work Tasks
- Run a restaurant or bar well; hire and train workers
- Choose what will be served on the menu and set the prices
- Order supplies, food, and drinks and make sure orders are filled correctly
- Make payroll and do bookkeeping
- Work in restaurant and bar offices, and also work in the restaurant or bar overseeing workers and attending to customers
- Work with food, glasses, silverware, menus, pricing information, personnel records, schedules, order forms, inventory, financial and clerical records

Education/Training
- Minimum for Entry: A 2-year degree in restaurant management and experience working in a restaurant
- Employers Prefer: A 4-year degree in hospitality management and work experience
- Skills/Courses: Restaurants offer courses and on-the-job training in food preparation, nutrition, sanitation, security, company policies and procedures, personnel management, recordkeeping, computer systems, and preparation of reports.
- Certification/Licensing: Certification is available after completing courses and taking a test.
