Work Tasks
- Help surveyors by collecting information
- Use surveying instruments like the theodolite (which measures angles) and equipment which measures distances
- Take notes, make sketches, and record readings from the equipment
- Help surveyors use the Global Positioning System (GPS)
- Work outside for engineering, architectural, and surveying firms; the government, public utilities; construction, mining, oil, and gas companies
- Work with theodolites, altimeters, steel tapes or chains to measure distance, level rods (to determine elevation and distances), and Global Positioning Systems (GPS)
