Work Tasks
- Help students learn class work and work with one student at a time or small groups
- Record grades, set up equipment, and help get materials ready for the teacher
- Grade papers, check homework, keep health records, take attendance, type, file, and copy papers
- Help supervise students
- Work mostly in preschool and elementary school systems; and private schools, daycare centers, and religious schools
- Work with students, teachers, parents, school committees, textbooks and workbooks, reference books, classroom supplies, slides, films, homework assignments, tests, quizzes, student records, and attendance reports

- $26,000 average per year ($12.50 per hour)

Education/Training
- Minimum for Entry: On-the-job training, or a 2-year degree and experience as a teacher aide
- Employers Prefer: A 4-year degree and experience working with children
- Skills/Courses: Skills include learning how to work with children in a classroom setting.
