Work Tasks

• Plan computer related jobs for a company based on its management goals
• Choose computer hardware and software and keep it working correctly
• Estimate how many workers a project will need and what the cost will be
• Supervise programmers and workers who use the computer systems
• Work for electrical, electronic, and transportation equipment manufacturers, chemical industries, engineering and architectural firms, computer services companies, business consulting firms, the government, colleges, universities, and nonprofit research organizations
• Work with plans, designs, reports, computer equipment, computer printouts, employee work schedules, evaluations, and other papers

• $105,000 average per year ($50.50 per hour)

Education/Training

• Minimum for Entry: A 4-year degree in business or a computer-related field
• Employers Prefer: A master's degree in business administration with courses in information systems management
• Skills/Courses: Must know how to set up and operate a computer network, design online order processing systems, and make business decisions.
