Work Tasks
- Develop exercise programs and plan routines to help people improve their physical health
- Explain exercises to people
- Give stress tests and record results in charts and computers
- Teach stress management, nutrition, weight control, cross-training, and related subjects
- Work for health clubs, country clubs, hospitals, universities, resorts and spas, corporations, and private practice
- Work with scales, tape measures, weights and lifting equipment, bicycles, treadmills, rowing machines, first aid equipment, and individual charts

Education/Training
- Minimum for Entry: Certification as a fitness trainer
- Employers Prefer: A 4-year degree in fitness training or related subject
- Skills/Courses: College courses are in fields related to health and fitness, such as exercise science or physical education.
- Certification/Licensing: Personal fitness trainers must be certified.
