Work Tasks
- Install burglar alarms and other security systems
- Follow blueprints to put in wires, conduits, and signaling units
- Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, and batteries
- Test to make sure the system works correctly
- Work for security systems and alarm companies, construction companies, and as self-emplopyed in their own business
- Work with blueprints, hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment

Education/Training
- Minimum for Entry: On-the-job training
- Employers Prefer: A high school diploma and an apprenticeship in security system installation
- Skills/Courses: Courses in electronics, computer systems and networks, blueprint reading, shop math, and business practices.
