Work Tasks
- Grow and sell plants and vegetables
- Pick which seeds, soil, pesticides, and fertilizer to use
- Hire workers and teach them how to care for the plants
- Keep a record of how much money is spent and how much is made
- Work for nurseries, greenhouses, and horticulture businesses
- Work with nursery and greenhouse tools, planting schedules, workers' schedules, financial accounts, seed, fertilizer, pesticides, and other nursery supplies
Salary, Size & Growth
- $47,500 average per year ($22.75 per hour)

Education/Training
- Minimum for Entry: Years of experience working in a nursery
- Employers Prefer: A 2-year degree in horticulture or small business management
- Skills/Courses: Courses in plant science, horticulture, accounting, and business management
- Certification/Licensing: Certification is required if pesticides are used.
